What is COVID-19?
COVID-19 or Corona Virus Disease – 2019 is a highly contagious disease caused by the lately discovered novel coronavirus.
How Does It Spread?
COVID-19 spreads mainly through the droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person sneezes or coughs.

Symptoms of Coronavirus Disease
- Fever
- Cough
- Shortness of breath
- Persistent pressure or pain in the chest
These symptoms may appear 2 to 14 days after exposure to the virus.

Is It Contagious?
Coronavirus is highly contagious and easily spreads from one person to another. WHO (World Health Organization) has denoted it as a pandemic due to its rapid contagiousness across the world.
Older people, especially those with a lung-disease or COPD, diabetes, and low immunity are at a higher risk of developing a serious complication from COVID-19 illness.
Preventive Measures
By now, there is no specific treatment or vaccine for COVID-19. Several ongoing clinical trials are evaluating potential treatments.
The only way to contain the virus infection is by following some preventive measures as outlined by WHO:
- Cover your nose and mouth with the bent elbow or a clean tissue while coughing or sneezing. Immediately dispose of the used tissue.
- Wash your hands frequently with soap or use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
- Stay at home and avoid public places.
- Maintain social distancing by keeping at least 1 meter of distance between yourself and anyone who is sneezing or coughing.
- Avoid touching mouth, nose, and eyes.
- Disinfect and clean frequently touched surfaces every day.
- If you have a cough, fever, and difficulty in breathing, seek medical assistance at the earliest.
